Ellen is on a mission to create meaningful memorable Chinese names that make F.A.M.E. for the western leaders and experts.

Ellen Yule is her English name. She’s a Chinese by birth and a Kiwi by choice.

By creating meaningful memorable Chinese names, she helps China-related experts, like you, unlock the world of opportunities in China, grow your business and impact in the world, with ease and less effort.

Ellen was born and grew up in Chongqing. She worked as an international trader, an English-speaking tour guide and a journalist in China.

Since 2002, as owner-operator of 2WAYS Tours, living in New Zealand, she has been working with professionals and their families from China, Catalonia and Spain for their life enriching holiday tours in New Zealand.

Would you remember Ellen if she told you her Chinese name Yú Líng 余玲 at the beginning?

Most likely, the answer is NO.

The same situation would happen to you when you introduce yourself by telling your English name or your Chinese name by default (transliterate) to the Chinese.

A well-designed Chinese name is what you need.

Why Both English Name and Chinese Name?

The Naming Journey of Ellen Yule / Yú Líng 余玲

Ellen’s parents chose her first name with their hope that she’s as bright as a piece of jade, literally matching up the meaning of the Chinese character Ling .

It’s not a question of “or”. It’s a question of ‘and”.

Yú Líng 余玲 gave herself an English name: Ellen when she started working in a China state-owned import and export company in 1992.

Instead of using Lyn that sounds closer to her Chinese given name Ling, she put a higher value on the meaning of a name than its pronunciation. Because it reflects her and her life better in a virtual, meaningful way.

In the name of Ellen, the two ‘e’s symbolise ‘eyes’ to see what the life presents and the two ‘l’s present ‘legs’ to explore what the world has to offer.

Her Chinese surname Yu (meaning ‘surplus’) was officially changed to Yule (meaning ‘Christmas time’) after God saved her from a serious car accident in her first New Zealand road trip three days before Christmas in 2002.

Anglicising her surname was a deliberate act of translation and transformation, gave herself a new identity in a new country – New Zealand, integrated into the Kiwi society with less scrutiny or discrimination while keeping close links to her Chinese roots and heritage.

From Chinese name Yú Líng 余玲, English name Ellen Yule, to both English name and Chinese name Ellen Yule / Yú Líng 余玲, it’s a transformational self-discovery and life-enriching journey.

Why Ellen started Chinese Name Design Service?

Ellen’s always sensitive and obsessed with people’s names.

She has created many meaningful Chinese names for her non-Chinese speaking friends and clients for the past two decades.

They have an extra powerful key to presenting themselves elegantly and connecting with the Chinese confidently, for business or personal fulfilment.

And then the global pandemic Covid-19 came. It has affected dramatically many businesses and lives since 2020.

Because we all have some connections with China, directly or indirectly, professionally, or personally.

China is already a powerhouse in trade, investment, education, transportation, tourism, technology, global climate change and international political policies…

But there’s a challenge and a new reality.

Misinformation, misunderstanding, mistrust, and disconnection has widened the gap between the western world and China.

So, Ellen asked herself how she could use her existing knowledge, resources, bilingual skills and deep understanding of China and the western world to help others.

When the world panic, leaders stand up, reach out, build connections, and make changes for better.

You may be one of these leaders, authors, scholars, experts, China-related business owners…

The global changes start with a single person. A personal change starts with a person’s name.

A Chinese name by design!

Ellen uses her PIPICI Chinese Name Design System, 9-point Chinese Name Evaluation Filter, and pass the FAME & SHAME Test, an acronym for what makes or breaks a name, based on her philosophy: a well-designed Chinese name should make you FAME (Fab connections, Aspiring stories, Memorable names and Enhancing impact) instead of SHAME.

So, you make better widespread name, richer professional and personal life, and bigger positive impact in the world.

What’s stopping you from having a well-designed Chinese Name now?

You’ll already be a step above the rest.
